5 Healthy Eating Tips for Your Hectic Lifestyle

With long working hours, skipped lunch, late nights, less sleep, fast food and early mornings, it’s pretty difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Maintaining a balanced diet can be a challenge when you have less time to take care of yourself and more work to do. To make your life simpler, here are five tips to say ‘hello’ to a healthy lifestyle:

1. Drink Lots of Water

Carry a bottle of drinking water to your workplace. According to doctors, you should drink at least eight glasses of water daily to ease your digestion, keep you energized and to improve your focus at work. Drink water 20 minutes prior to a meal and one hour after you have had your lunch. Avoid chilled water as it affects your digestion process and reduces the gastrointestinal function.

2. Plan Your Grocery List

Do not hit the grocery store unprepared. Doing so means bidding adieu to healthy living. Take a few minutes out of your busy schedule and plan your grocery list. Prepare a list of the items you’ll need for the week. This way, you’ll have only the healthy items added to the list and avoid some of the impulse purchases that disrupt your eating habits.

3. Eat the Right Breakfast

Eat a healthy breakfast to boost your energy and maintain the right blood sugar level. Keep away from food items that are high in sugar or carbohydrates. Else, expect to go for a blood sugar roller coaster! Choose a filling and healthy morning meal including cereals, fruits, oatmeal, veggies, brown bread, organic cow’s milk, nuts, eggs, yogurt and extra virgin olive oil. These food items are rich in fiber, complex carbohydrates, good fats and proteins.

4. Avoid Coffee

Do you take several cups of coffee a day expecting that your afternoon energy will not dip? Wrong! Instead, you’ll feel more exhausted. Why? Excess coffee will dehydrate your body, overburden your liver and lead to blood sugar instability. More coffee will make you more lethargic, vulnerable to disease, and increase your weight. Switch to ginseng, herbal or green tea for more energy. Try peppermint for a healthy tummy.

5. Eat Less in a Party

Appetizers and after-work drinks don’t necessarily mean that you have to grab a plate of mini-crab cakes or a savory dish rich in cheese. Opt for a healthy dish so that you don’t turn up at the party with an empty stomach. Eat little of those decadent appetizers. Do not hesitate to ask is the name and ingredients of a dish if you don’t know it. Grab a plate and fill it up with more veggies and less of red meat and cheese.

Embrace these simple eating tips as they are easy to implement in your busy life and are good for you health.
