6 Ways to Make a Healthy Fresh Start in the New Year

New year, better health! While you don’t need to reinvent yourself every new year, it is an excellent opportunity to re-focus on your health goals.

Here are six of our favorite ways to make a healthy fresh start in the new year:

Prioritize Sleep. 

It’s all too easy to compromise sleep with a busy schedule. But, getting at least seven to nine hours of sleep each night is important for cognitive performance, mood, and overall health. Not getting enough sleep each night can even increase your risk for heart disease, stroke, dementia, and obesity, among other conditions. 

Try a New Form of Exercise. 

It can be difficult to keep up with an exercise regimen. But, finding a new form of exercise that you love could help you remain active in the new year. Pilates, swimming, bouldering, kickboxing, and barre workouts are examples of workouts to try in 2023. 

Consistently Eat a Healthy Breakfast.

After waking up, breakfast is your chance to restore your body’s glucose levels so that you feel energized and alert. Optimize your breakfast this year by choosing foods packed with low-fat protein, healthy fats, and fiber-rich carbs.

Stay Active During The Work Day. 

If you have a desk job, all of that sitting can quickly lead to back and neck pain, among other health problems. Resolve to stand and/or take a quick walk around the office every hour (at least) to avoid the downfalls of a sedentary career. 

Drink More Water.

Staying hydrated has been found to boost brain function, improve physical performance, prevent headaches, and prevent digestive discomfort, among other benefits. So, aim to drink water before you get thirsty, especially at mealtimes. 

Make Time For Self-Care.

While having a vibrant social and family life is important, make sure to make time for self-care in the new year. Journaling, meditation, or even investing in a massage therapy appointment can help you curb stress and stay centered.
