Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy in Zephyrhills

Have you been the victim of an auto accident, slip, fall, or sports injury in Pasco County? Don’t wait to get help for your injuries! There are protections in place for Florida residents who suffer injuries in accidents, but you must seek treatment before the clock runs out to get the benefits.

Seeking immediate care for potential injuries after an accident is also important because early identification and diagnosis of issues are vital for reaching the best potential outcome. When injuries are left to worsen without proper treatment, the likelihood of the patient returning to their pre-accident level of functioning declines.

Regardless of if you’ve suffered a spinal injury, soft tissue sprain or strain, deep contusions, or whiplash, the medical professionals at Florida Wellness Medical Center in Zephyrhills are ready to guide you down the path to healing today. Call us at (844) 935-5669 or request an appointment online to begin physical therapy services for your injuries.

What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy is a medical treatment with the goal of reducing pain, improving range of motion, and enhancing the quality of life. Physical therapy may be the best treatment option for your injuries after an accident.

What does a physical therapist do?

At Florida Wellness Medical Center, our licensed physical therapists are trained in evaluating accident victims, identifying obvious and hidden injuries, and developing treatment plans to ease painful symptoms and restore their previous functioning.

Physical therapists use many modalities to treat injuries, including:

  • Targeted exercises
  • Stretching
  • Massages
  • Electric stimulation
  • Hot and/or cold therapy
  • Traction
  • Dry needling

What conditions can physical therapy treat?

Physical therapy can treat many symptoms related to a variety of conditions and ailments, including:

  • Pain with movement
  • A limited range of motion
  • Reduced functioning due to injury or pain
  • Balance and gait problems
  • Amputation
  • Traumatic birth
  • Stroke
  • Many chronic physical conditions, such as MS

Will physical therapy sessions hurt?

Physical therapy should never be painful, however, some people do describe it as uncomfortable at times. This is because physical therapy requires the patient to move parts of the body that have been injured or unused for periods of time, and that can cause soreness in the area.

Do I need a referral for physical therapy in Florida?

Florida is a “Direct Access to Care” state, meaning that accident victims are allowed to receive up to 30 days of physical therapy for their injuries without a referral from their primary care physician. Treatment plans for longer than 30 days, or treatment that was not initiated until more than 30 days after the accident, still require a referral.

Does insurance pay for physical therapy in Florida?

You have a few different ways that insurance might cover the cost of your physical therapy for injuries sustained in an accident:

  • Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage: All Florida motorists are required to carry PIP coverage, which will pay 80% of qualified medical expenses, up to $10,000, if treatment starts within 14 days of the auto accident date.
  • Workers Compensation coverage: If you are injured in an accident at work, your employer is required to cover the cost of your care through their Workers Compensation insurance coverage. See your employer for more details.
  • Personal Health Insurance: If you were not injured in an auto accident or at work, your personal health insurance policy may cover part of the cost of your physical therapy. Contact your insurance company for more details on your coverage. Please call us at (844) 935-5669 for a comprehensive list of all of the insurance plans that we currently accept.

For patients who do not have insurance and are not covered by PIP or Workers Comp, we offer self-pay plans with competitive rates.
